The J86-4400 keyboard is designed for harsh environments and unsupervised applications that may be subject to vandalism or abuse. Both the fascia and the keycaps are constructed from stainless steel and are tested to withstand impacts similar to hammer blows. Keycaps are non-removable, and all keyswitches are designed with over-travel protection. The integrated, lip-sealed trackball is made of a heavy-duty phenolic material designed specifically to resist attempted abuse. It is IP65 and NEMA-4 rated when installed in a suitable enclosure, making it resistant to water and dust. All keycaps are laser marked, rather than printed, resulting in long-term resistance against wear and weather.
